"SOCIB: The Balearic Islands Coastal Ocean Observing and Forecasting System Responding to Science, Technology and Society Needs" published in the Marine Technology Society Journal

SOCIB mission, objectives, drivers, design, construction and now since 2012-2013 ongoing activities and initial results from the different multi-platform observing and forecasting systems were published in the January/February issue from the Marine Technology Society Journal (Vol. 47, N.1, pp. 101-117). As indicated in https://www.mtsociety.org/MTS_Journal_public/,  The Marine Technology Society Journal is the flagship publication of the Marine Technology Society. It publishes the highest caliber, peer-reviewed papers on subjects of interest to the society: marine technology, ocean science, marine policy and education. The Journal is dedicated to publishing timely special issues on emerging ocean community concerns while also showcasing general interest and student-authored works.

SOCIB responds to a paradigm change in ocean observation from single platform ship based observation to multi-platform observing systems with quasi real time and quality controlled data access for both scientists and society in general, by this enhancing our capacity for knowledge based and informed decision support. SOCIB was actually featured at the front cover of the January/February 2013 issue.
