SOCIB featured in National Geographic Society Journal

SOCIB was featured in the National Geographic February News, on the spanish version of this popular website. The article published in National Geographic Society, entitled “High-Tech Marine Observation” describes the new observational marine infrastructures currently implemented at SOCIB and also discusses the change of paradigm in the observation of oceans and coasts, which were, in the past, exclusively based on the use of big Research Vessels, and currently and in the future, based on the use of integrated and multi-platform systems.

This article also includes an infographic illustration describing the synergy among the different observing facilities (oceanographic vessel, moorings network, surface velocity drifters, ARGO profiles, HF Radar, Autonomous Underwater vehicles, etc.), forecasting systems, assimilation data tools, data management and distribution systems, etc. allowing to obtain a complete and integrated description of the physical and biogeochemical properties of the marine environment and its evolution on the Mediterranean Sea.
