SOCIB Data Center developed Leaflet-TimeDimension Tool enabling visualization of spatial data with a temporal dimension

SOCIB data centre has developed a tool that enables visualization of spatial data with a temporal dimension known as Leaflet-TimeDimension. This tool allows the visualization of data in an easy way in any webpage using an interactive map viewer, where it is possible to explore data, not only with changes of zoom and displacements (panning), but also integrating now the temporal dimension of the data. Leaflet-TimeDimension has been developed as a complement to Leaflet, a library widely used to visualize maps, and is a free piece of software available from the SOCIB code repository in GitHub, where you can also propose or open issues and to send proposals and suggestions for code improvements.

Most of the data that are integrated in the observational and forecasting system of SOCIB are spatial data with a temporal dimension. Examples are the Ibiza HF Radar observations, the satellite products and or the outputs of the oceanographic models WMOP (currents for the Western Mediterranean) and SAPO (waves in the Balearic Islands). SOCIB already offers different tools for data visualization, by means of figure generation at every moment or with the LW4NC2 viewer, an independent application designed for the visualization of data stored in NetCDF format and distributed via THREDDS.

This complement has already been integrated in SOCIB web in HF Radar Section and in the SAPO wave model section. It has been integrated in the NetCDF Grid Timeseries Viewer application as well.
