"Oceanographic Turtles" project is awarded in the 6th Mediterranean Conference on Marine Turtles

SOCIB members (David March, Jessica Ruff and Yolène Ledoux) presented the recent advances of the Oceanographic Turtles project at the 6th Mediterranean Conference on Marine Turtles, Poreč (Croatia), 16-19 October.

MSc students, Jessica Ruff and Yolène Ledoux, presented their work on 3D habitat use and the effect of diving behavior on location estimates, respectively. The poster presented by Jessica Ruff was awarded with the Student Best Poster Award. The scientific committee highly valued the novelty of the work done in analyzing the habitat use of loggerhead turtles using innovative 3D methods. Furthermore, thanks to the Sponsors of the Conference both students received a travel grant to fund their registration and accommodation at the conference.

The principal investigator of the project, David March, presented the cutting edge advances developed in the project in one of the selected oral communications. In his presentation, Dr. March provided an overview about the work carried out by SOCIB towards the integration of animal-borne instruments with ocean observing systems, with a special focus on the synergies that emerged between oceanographers, biologist, engineers, and other stakeholders.
