The optical sensors that work in the visible band of the electromagnetic spectrum, provide data about the color of the ocean, which is related to chlorophyll and phytoplankton. More specifically, this section presents chlorophyll-a concentration images showing ocean color maps built from spectroradiometric satellite measurements.
The chlorophyll-a concentration data is an L3 product from the MODIS sensor in the Aqua satellite mission, developed by GFSC (NASA). It consists of a global daily gridded dataset with a resolution of 1/24 degrees.
